Location:
Raj Bhavan or Governor's Residence is located in the Guindy Park,
in one of the southern suburbs of Chennai city. One may find it
difficult to acknowledege the place as a southern premise on the
city map. Doubts arise because of the dislocation of the
geographical center and the actual center from the administrative
and point of view. The place serves as the official residing place
for the Governor of the Tamil Nadu state, one of the south eastern
states of India.
Famous For:
Raj Bhavan bears both historical as well as administrative
importance. The residence of the governor during British era used to
be close to the Fort St.George. In the early years of twentieth
century the residence was moved to the Guindy area. The house
serving as governor's residence is not an architectural marvel by
any means. But the occupation of the house is important enough to
place it in the attractions list.
Raj Bhavan occupies one of the corners of the park. With the great
forest lands and animal retreat in its vicinity the place is one
destination that is not missed by the tourists visiting the city.
the house also features a small gallery wherein records of the past
occupants have been immortalized. There are also five mandapams
(memorials) belonging to the national and heroes. Being the
residence of the Chief Executive of the state, Tamil Nadu, the place
is well guarded and well maintained.
Accessibility:
